Memorial Weekend - BBQs, festivals, and culture clash.
As i sit at work in the land of redundancy, resizing several hundred photos, my lack of sleep is very apparent to me. Memorial weekend was a very active time for me, beginning Thursday night.
As i returned home late Thursday night, after attending an acquaintance’s (who i found out was 8 months pregnant) graduation shindig, i found my uncle ( who i have not seen sprawled out across the sofa bed in the den along with his second son. The next morning as i got ready for work, he woke up and chatted briefly with me. And strangely enough, i would not see him or meet my "new cousin" till Sunday.
Saturday, rolled out to the Bam Dance for Africa outdoor bazaar in downtown Brooklyn, with two of my college peoples and continued to take pictures with Marc's first camera, a Yashica 124 twin lens. i was getting such joy out of winding the film up and toying with this old-style camera, which are stil put out by many companies.
The bazaar was filled with lots of beautiful sights (women), people i know, and i got to look at Emerson Matabele's prints up close, and speak to the man.
Later that day was family BBQ at my Uncle's/Godfather's crib -- also in Brooklyn.
Sunday was a day of rest, except for the Halo session at my friend's house. It seems this sector of people i know (the same ones from Saturday) do this thing where a bunch of heads bring their video game systems over and some TVs and just have hours of video game debauchery (sp). And this night it was halo on the Xbox, which meant up to 12 people could play at the same time. There were nine of us and things got a crackin’ a little before midnight. All i can say is that if i had not gotten out of there at 1:15 am, i would have been playing till the morning. All i can say this was my first time playing a first-person perspective game that i actually enjoyed. Violence, lots of weapon, and a controller that compliments the game is key.
Monday was spent bidding farewell to my uncle and my cousin (he is a smart 6 year old); attempting to find a friends apartment in downtown Brooklyn (again); getting there and warning my friends -- three black males and a one female -- that this will be a "mixed crowd." and all in all it was a mélange of my Friend's and her roommates circles of punk/rock music heads and sorted primarily "Caucasian" individuals. the mixture to my sight was quite interesting.

It's up finally
After much thought, deliberation, and procrastination, i have finally redesigned my photo section of my site. And first up is my trip to Atlanta last month.
The process began with me picking out pictures out of 6 rolls to put up from the trip. Sadly, but fortunately, there were quite a few pictures that came out over exposed, deeming them unprintable. Next step was the dauntign task of scanning the 40 or so pictures that would or would not make it onto the site. Then toying with them in Photoshop, a learned to actually do more in that program than just resizing, because as a design friend told me: "Knowing how ot resize a picture in photoshop does not mean u know how to use it."

Life goes on... ATL pictures almost $100 out of my pocket
$42 for five fims developed including contact sheets
about 39 pictures are getting reprinted with borders. 89 cents for each color print and 1.19 per B&W. So this is going to cost me.

i hate kodak film i hate kodak film i hate kodak filmi hate kodak filmi hate kodak filmi hate kodak filmi hate kodak filmi hate kodak filmi hate kodak film Tmax 100 and VC 400 can just die now (supra 100 isn't so bad). and damn the VC film again (11 pictures came out over exposed!)!
Kodak Film that is (meaning i got my atl film developed). However, my Fuji 400 with my new 81A filter and my Kodak Trix 400 did not fail me. But i think most of the faulty pictures occurred because those films were given to me by Baptiste to try out -- for the first time. So i should have seen this coming. ARGH!!!

Yesterday, we and the kids took a field trip to go see a 3D film at the Sony IMAX theatre. But before that, i was forced to kill some time, since i got to the studio in the morning and found no one there. This consisted of:Stumbling into an NYU Strawberry Festival (with a guest appearance by an old collegemate, and a performance Antibalas), and treating myself to a meal at The Pink Tea Cup.
By the time i reached the center Uptown, Damion was readying everything for the outing -- money, permission slips, etc. I was ready to fall out, actually i was ready to fall out since the day began since i had not gotten any sleep even before my departure for ATL. My body will make me pay back one of these days for all those unecessary late nights behind the computer.
yes but i can babble on and on, so i have signed up for another writing workshop -- Creative Wirting. and this time it's not with sheree.
But anyway, the film -- Space Station 3D -- an hour-long pseudo-documentary on the building of the international space station was sadly my first 3D film, and actually pretty worth a viewing. And no longer are those goofy-looking red and black glasses used, but this virtual-reality-like head gear.
