Photographers: wanna be in a book?

the info

28mm has closed its doors. But before we let the website sleep quietly on the server, we are diving into one last venture, the 28mm coffee table book.

We will be selecting 50-photographers to submit four previously unpublished works. The selection criteria will be stricter than that of the website. This book is a representation of 28mm.org, which means we will accept nothing short of your very best work.

Our book has an open submission policy. Anyone who has an interest, talent, and eye for photography is welcome. This could be your chance to not only be apart of something special, but also to see your work in print.

We will be accepting submissions as of November 1. Until that time, we will be happy to answer any questions you might have. However, please keep your submissions and submission specific questions until the aforementioned time

Happy Shooting! We look forward to your submissions.

Change always comes

So yesterday i had to pick up balloons for my goddaughter's fifth birhday party that i had ordered the day before. it was already a long week with classes, tutoring my two little cousins in Brooklyn and havign to come into the office ot factcheck.

turns out that the annual birthday celebration would be her last here. Due to my cousins scattered head she forgot to alert me to the fact that she and her daughter would be moving to Miami at 5 am this morning.

Short Stories and the Feeling like the Lone black person

Oi Va Voi

Refugee

You ask me,
Why it is I come to you,
when someone else is just as good.
I asked them but they said the same,
Didn't even ask my name.

Explain to me
Just what it is you have to lose
Take a minute in my shoes
Don't it feel like you've paid your dues
already

I'll show you,
That all our fates are so entwined
don't lose your faith in humankind
Just don't forget my state of mind
is fragile.

Together,
we can enjoy the taste of dignity
As long as you believe in me
I'll show you my reality
I've seen a few.

You ask me,
Why it is I come to you,
when someone else is just as good.
I asked them but they said the same,
Didn't even ask my name.

Another refugee.

Past two weeks of Grad school:

I'm a mute, less opinions being stated, especially in Writing Workshop. Some classmates are very vocal about chatting up critiques and opinions on the stories we read. Lately I've been feeling less like being all involved, socializing, etc. I wonder if I will feel better about my decision by the end of this semester about doing this MFA. It hasn't helped that most of these people live in park slope, which for me is out of the way even by car.

but I do feel like the only black person in my specific program. There are more in the English MA program but we don't even see our Poetry counterparts. But I am exaggerating -- I'm not the only black person, but perhaps I'm the only black person with my background, whatever that means. I guess literary writers don't party the same way I do or whatever that means. Who knows maybe I will bond with a person or too. :(

Driving: I drive to class every week from Brooklyn to Queens. I don't plan on doing this for the whole two years. Which why I so desperately want to have enough income to move to BK, as well as finally live on my own.

A new story:
It formed in me last week and I wrote 7 pages in one sitting. I hope to have it ready the next time I have to submit for workshop.

In other news Stephen Simmonds dropped a new album.

Hi Richard--I wanted to see with my own eyes what you store in "your necklace"...The thing is, *everybody* feels out of place when they first come to the MFA program. Perhaps you feel an extra layer of that, but you are not alone in feeling anti-social. Just think about what a strange concept a writing program is--a bunch of strangers reveal their inner hangups and wackiness through fiction and have to comment on them! Without trying to sound too old-sage-y, give it time. Your comfort level will grow.
Love the photographs, by the way. The one of your grandmother is terrific. (Why not submit some to the Brooklyn Review?)

So i purchased the OG Bitch EP

And basically found out that the album won't be out to early next year/ Well c'est la vie. And i have learned anotehr though postiing up OG Bitch this past summer -- Esthero be online a lot and she don't play in regards to negative attention.

But i must post this: The EP contains several remixes - not too many i care for except the broken one that Gaelle was involved in - plus a non-album track produced by Keith Crouch and her

So here it is: "I Love You"

Whoa, I can't believe how talented Esthero is. Her real name is Jenny by the way. "I Love You" is so beautiful can she even make a bad song? I seriously think it's impossible. Anyway, thanks for posting.
