Broken mirrors and the 'Burg

So per Jenny i rolled out with her to Williamsburg after working with my cousins. I rarely come out to that part of brooklyn since working there in 2000. It's changed even more since then, more of the old factory buildings are now lofts, bars and restaurants. And of course lots more transplants form other places. but it's cool to hang out there sometimes like yesterday.

So we hit a spot that gives out free pizza pies with an order of a drink. That was cool except i decided to go find an ATM at a pizza shop by where i parked my car. as i walked back with a slice of this really good sicilian slice with pesto on it i watched as a garbage truck hesitate on turning on the corner where my car was parked and finally make the turn and take out my driver's side mirror. Fortunately for me they were kind enough to stop and give me enough money to replace the mirror at a junkyard today as well as my driver's side outside door handle which had broken off a few months ago.

Peace out to the Loosie crew who we ened up with later last night.

Tsunami song backlash

As some of you may now A NY radio station's morning show has been suspended because of parody song made poking fun at the victims of the tsunami and tkaing bigoted stabs at asians. The backlash has steadily grown including a response song by Chinese-American rapper Jin.

Here are two umm interviews with Todd Lynn who performed on the song:

Back to school today

Am i ready?
i dunno but i meet Colson Whitehead - my new writing workshop leader- who seems to be the darling of white readers including many of my classmates. I started reading his first book, The Intuitionist, a week and a half ago. It's finally getting interesting now.

women are a wonder

Today i decided to brave teh trains post all this to go see my tax accountant. I ended up picking up a new winter coat (after five years) from Triple 5 Soul for half off.

Anyhow my return trip from brooklyn after workign with the rugrats included two train transfers (normal) and on the E train an odd incident. Some woman with beautiful locs was sittign sort of across from me and stared at me for a good long time. i wasn't sure what to do except feel uncomfortable.

But i decied to investigate when i got off my stop and asked her if she knew me. She answered no. i asked her if she was staring at me she nodded and like walked off rather quickly. I turned aroudn not sure to feel irked or embarassed. was it what i said? if she went ot another car then i know she was off in her head.

???

Well when you hit someone with your car

and they keep walking afterwards, you really not sure what you should do. However, when you stop and get out of your car to see if they are alright, they are hella angry and you touch them and ask if they are alright and they say, "Don't touch me!" Then you look on as they walk into whatever projects they live in and turn to see you car still running and the one door that's unlocked is the one where the handle broke off.

Well that was my 30 minute unexpected pitstop in Brooklyn on my way to my cousins. Fortunately there were two auto body shops a block away from where my car was stuck at and a mechanic was able tt pop my lock. Andnow i know why it is so easy to break into 1990 Toyota Camrys.

I realized 30 minutes later that wasn't really myfault, although i think maybe i should have been more careful with the setting sun blinding me from tiem to time. But she wasnt' supposed to be off the curb even though one lane of cars was at halt. the lane i went into was free hence why i took it.

I just hope she is alright nonetheless.

I swung by to say-
1) That's real fucked up what you did to the pedestrian. She/he/anonymous project resident was probably so disoriented they couldn't accept the help your reckless-driving self was offering.
2) WOW. The Omar and Esthero EP's you burned for me were amazing. I'm going buy the Esthero EP and single. Would have already if I knew it was out. Umm, but why was it like 10 songs long? I feel like I had some bonus tracks. Anyway, thanks not-so-chatty boy.

PS-And what's the name of the Omar Ep and where can I pay for it. It's too good not too buy and my google searches turned up nothing.

moviemaking weekend/ Father's birthday

Well helping my other film student friend with a short. I was in charge of lighting and ended up also being the boom mic operator on the second day of shooting as the original guy caught food poisoning (was it the McDonald’s we ate Saturday?). I got a refresher on shooting films and hope to do more shoots with Khary who started the Columbia Graduate film program.

One of my other goals in life aside from publishing a book is to put together at least one film before I die. The role I play I’m not sure but I am sure I will be learning how to do one like I learned to take photos. Self-teaching.

Today we celebrated my father's ___ birthday, which was last Thursday. A friend of the family made food for him and we joined in (one of his godson, my aunt, mom, aunt and Grandmother)

What i do three times a week

Kiami the younger anti-homework one

Paul, the older one proned to venturing into his own world

Purely incidently my uncle talked me into working with my youngest cousins right now on homework back in September. i have managed to stick with it despite moments of burning out during the semester and factchecking. They both are a trip.

Preparing to watch the Season premiere of 24 last night. I spent most of the day in Brooklyn. Had brunch with a lady then was at Kenji's for the rest of the day. Frankly i fear getting addicted to another TV show and 24 is cliffhanger based.

But I'm glad to see Angela Bassett on Alias as a recurring character, but this season lacks energy and a sense they can fix the mess they made last season. And whether there are any stories left in the show.

damn, Kenji cut the locks? didn't know that...

umm, Alias used to be a favorite show of mine, then things started getting kind of chaotic over there, and i stopped watching it... u know how shows start out just right, then over time the writers/producers start fucking it up? e.g.-XFiles, ER, Alias! yeah, they made a big mess last year, and i'm thinking that this will be the last season... they cant fix that mess...

24. i started watching this from the first season, and i didn't want to b/c its one of those shows that instantly hooks u! some real intense shyt, right!

now, my fav has to be CSI:, the original, not the offshoots... luckily, Law & Order stil has good writers.

2004 was an interesting year but...

Von Pea in DUMBO by Richard Louissaint

First semester of grad school, Friendster then myspace (lol), new friends, new acquaintances; lots of new music much of it from under the radar artists like Gaelle, Oi Va Voi, and quite of few disappointments (Kweli, Mos Def, etc); when I get around to it I will put together a 2003/2004 best of list; Saw lots of films wasn't impressed by most.

But New Year's Eve was much better than last year. With Kenji, Claudine and others in tow we ended up at a nice loft party in Brooklyn with DJs and food and drinks galore.

And Saturday I ate soup with my family and my uncle and cousin who randomly stopped by. I ended up making them watch Blade 2 which never fails to entertain me. Later on I went to my Aunt Marlene's house for dinner and hung with my cousins. But I realize as much as they know me they really don't get me. With my cousin D being in a committed relationship at 23 and my other cousin married with a daughter on the way. The conversation steered towards me at one point in regards to settling down. In his attempt to try to hook me (28, new grad student, still has heads in clouds dreaming big dreams) up with his girl's sister (31 doctor, established) they probed me on why I don't want to be in anything serious, the necessity of it, etc. bullshit bullshit.

For one D is saying that only cause he is in this long-term situation now. He has a ways to go in life, as do I. So as much as I love them they need to but out of my personal life, as do my elders.

Oh and I did garner I number on Friday. What it means is as usual up for grabs. But knowing me I just take it one day at a time. Not stressing it as long as there a cool peoples.

OH AN OFFICIAL PHOTO PORTFOLIO THANKS TO POSITIVE FOCUS
